About Spamhaus PBL

The PBL is not a spam list — it’s a policy list of IP ranges (submitted by ISPs or by Spamhaus) where end-user machines live and shouldn’t be connecting directly to other mail servers. Home/dynamic IPs and un-delegated ranges commonly appear here.

Why an IP gets listed

  • The IP is in a residential/dynamic range per the ISP’s own policy.
  • The range has no stated legitimate mail-server use.
  • Your ISP submitted the block as “end-user only”.

How to delist from Spamhaus PBL

  1. 1Confirm you actually run a legitimate mail server on a static IP (if you’re a normal user, send through your provider’s SMTP instead).
  2. 2Set correct static reverse DNS for the IP.
  3. 3Look up the IP at check.spamhaus.org and use the PBL self-service removal form — removal is immediate.
  4. 4If the range policy is set by your ISP, ask them to update it for your IP.

Before you request removal: fix the root cause first — delisting while the problem persists almost always leads to a fast re-listing. Confirm the IP has valid reverse DNS, and that your SPF, DKIM and DMARC are in order.
